Our Story
On October 3, 2022, I wrote a letter to the Fulcrum Foundation in Medford, WI, to ask for money to renovate our track which has not been useful for over a decade. During the process of the grant we were chosen to move on to the second level of the process for a grant. In early 2023, I took track coaches and students to a meeting with the Fulcrum Foundation Board to present our plans. Not long after this presentation we had won a substantial award to help our district with funding the track renovation. What a great day for our community, student and athletes! This funding along with funding from the school district and donations will bring the project to fruition.
Late summer and fall saw the beginning of the track renovations. American Asphalt ground the old asphalt from the old track and provided necessary fill to recreate the base properly. There were some problems that came to our attention. Point of Service from Stevens Point was here to be sure all of the soil was proper and the track was being constructed properly. We found out that there was muckys soil below the high jump area that needed to be removed and replaced with the proper soils to make sure there were no issues for many many years in this area. Other areas were solidified too. The track was widened a bit to be sure the asphalt lays properly when it will be surfaced next spring 2024. We were not able to put a first layer on the track because of all the moisture we received this fall.
